Since Al Suwaidi became Director-General in 2009, ADFD has supported sustainable development projects in 106 countries with over $58.8 billion in funding. In July 2024, ADFD became the first organization in MENA to receive the United Nations Small Island Developing States Partnerships Award on behalf of the U.A.E., following the allocation of $100 million to fund solar energy projects in developing countries. ADFD is administering $50 million in the second phase of the U.A.E.’s Lives and Livelihoods Fund 2.0, which was announced in April 2024.
