Al-Kharafi joined Zain’s board of directors in 2011. He was appointed vice chairman in 2014 and became group CEO in 2017. As of March 2024, Zain Group has operations in eight Middle Eastern and African countries with a workforce of over 8,200 people, and 42.4 million customers. In Q1 2024, the group reported revenues of $1.5 billion and had total assets of $16 billion. Al-Kharafi is also the vice chairman of Kuwait-based Gulf Cables & Electrical Industries Group Co. and National Investments Company and founder of BNK Holding. In March 2024, he was appointed as chairman of Gulf Bank Kuwait.
