CIB was established in 1975 as a joint venture between the National Bank of Egypt and the Chase Manhattan Bank. In January 2023, CIB acquired the remaining 49% stake of Mayfair CIB in Kenya for a total transaction value of $40 million. CIB has several subsidiaries, including CVentures, Damietta Shipping, and Commercial International for Finance. In April 2022, Alpha Oryx Limited—a subsidiary of the U.A.E.’s ADQ— acquired an 18.6% stake in CIB for $987.5 million.
