Shirah has published more than 160 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He also released a book on space medicine in Arabic and led workshops to educate Saudi students and scientists about the emerging field of space medicine. Shirah founded Nebula Research & Development, a Saudi company specializing in space medicine research and development. He is currently conducting in-space research on the Saudi astronaut mission Ax-2 in order to better understand the effects of microgravity and radiation on the human body.
