<p class="MsoNormal">The number of US mortgage applications plunged to their lowest since 1995 this past week as interest rates on the most preferred 30-year fixed-rate mortgage surged to their highest in 23 years, showed the latest weekly round of data published by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).</p>
