The World Trade Organization (WTO) has revised upwards its global trade estimates for the current year, but warned that COVID-19 continues to pose a big threat to the outlook, as fresh waves of infections and new variants of the coronavirus could undermine the potential recovery. The WTO expects world merchandise trade to increase by 8% in 2021 after having fallen 5.3% in 2020.
