The Egyptian pound’s exchange rate declined sharply with the Russian war eruption last year, losing 49% of its value against the US dollar since March 20, 2022, one day before the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided to suddenly devalue the currency for the first time after years of price stabilization. EGP reached 30.96 pounds per US dollar on June 22, 2023.
