Ride-sharing giant Uber has been fined more than $1.2 million by U.K. and Dutch authorities over a data breach that affected nearly 57 million users worldwide in 2016. The penalty comes as the ride sharing company failed to inform the customers and drivers about the incident for more than a year. Moreover, the company paid the attackers $100,000 in 2017 to destroy the data they had downloaded, which included the customers’ personal details such as full names, email addresses and phone numbers.
