We love to celebrate celebrities, and for some reason one of the many ways we do this today is by laying down stars bearing their names along pavements and walkways. As Dubai launches its highly-anticipated “The Dubai Stars”, here are seven walks of fame that you could visit across the world:
The Dubai Stars
Location: Dubai, UAE
The Dubai Stars, Emaar’s new walkable, star-studded attraction in Downtown Dubai, pays homages to local and international personalities from various fields. When completed, it is set to celebrate 10,000 famous personalities. Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, Indian film actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, singer Balqees Fathi, musician and actor Muhammad Atif Aslam, former Al-Hilal footballer Yasser Saeed Al-Qahtani, comedian and TV personality Ahmed Helmy, actress Mona Zaki, and internet star Khalid Al Ameri were all awarded a Dubai Star in the first phase of the launch.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
Location: Los Angeles
Located on both sides of Vine Street and Hollywood Boulevard, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is the most famous and widely-recognized for its embedded stars on illustrious sidewalks. The idea was first proposed by E. M. Stuart, who was a volunteer president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, in 1953. The first star was given to American film director and producer Stanley Kramer in March, 1960. Celebrities immortalized by the Hollywood Walk of Fame this include Tyler Perry, Wendy Williams, Terrence Howard, Guillermo del Toro, Kirsten Dunst, Lucy Liu, Pink and Anne Hathaway.
Canada's Walk of Fame
Location: Ontario, Canada
Established by Peter Soumalias, Gary Slaight, Bill Ballard, and Dusty Cohl, Canada’s Walk of Fame celebrates Canadian celebrities’ achievements across various categories. Multiplatinum-selling, singer-songwriter Alessia Cara was the latest to be awarded the Allan Slaight Music Impact Honor. Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams, Carly Rae Jepsen, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Drake are among others that have been recognized for their notable impact and work.
Australian Film Walk of Fame
Location: Sydney, Australia
The Australia Film Walk of Fame honors Australian who’ve made significant contributions to the film industry. It was unveiled in March 2009 and is situated outside the iconic Ritz Cinema in Sydney. Other walks of fame in Australia include Australians of the Year Walk, Randwick City Sporting Walk of Fame, and Australian Surfing Walk of Fame.
Walk of Fame Bucharest
Location: Bucharest, Romania.
The Romanian attraction can be found on the boulevard in Time Square in Bucharest since its inauguration in January 2011. Romanian actor Florin Piersic was the first person to have his own star publicly displayed.
Eastwood City Walk of Fame
The Eastwood City Walk of Fame—or the Walk of Fame Philippines—is adorned by Filipino artists every December. Tourists and locals can find brass stars and bronze plaques with names including Pia Wurtzbach, Julia Barretto, Ken Chan, Derek Ramsay, James Reid, Chito Roño, Rico Hizon and Marichu Vera Perez-Maceda in the heart of the country’s Eastwood City.
Broad Street Walk of Stars
Location: Birmingham, England
Found on the pedestrian pavement in the Westside area, the U.K.’s Broad Street Walk of Stars was established in 2007 and is organized and funded by the Broad Street Business Improvement District. Ozzy Osbourne, Lenny Henry, Julie Walters, Beverley Knight, and Chris Tarrant are some of the names that have been dedicated a star for their recognizable impact in their specialist fields.
